Taking a walk amongst “Wide Enclosed Spaces” will take you on an intriguing, surreal journey of form and mystery. Here, Carroll Charest transforms natural objects by zooming in and focusing on particular characteristics, whether it is the fluidity and texture of stalactite/stalagmites; the deep, enticing recesses of an animal skull or the allure of subterranean caves. Carroll then enlarges what she sees onto her chosen surface, exploring the relationship between these objects and the environment, transforming them into their own entities while noting a sense of movement and energy entombed within. She invites the viewer to come and experience these “enclosed spaces” and discover what images come forth waiting to be explored.
