Structures by Byron McBride

VASA Gallery presents Structures by Byron McBride. Opening reception is on Thursday, July 3rd from 6 - 9 pm, with the exhibition running from July 2nd to August 1st, 2014.

The interplay of urban and rural space is quite compelling and a constant source of inspiration for my work. We have worked hard to develop cities and we guard them very jealously from the perceived chaos without. Recent events, including time in Europe and the loss of several people close to me, have caused me to consider more deeply structure – from the composition of an object, to the perceptions and ideals embodied by it, to its context in the everyday. Everything is solid, but only from a certain point of view: buildings have strength, but are essentially hollow; our bodies are mainly liquid but can they be quite resilient. I am interested altering the context of objects and playing with their form to question their role in the larger universe.
