Dolly Bolen

Biography:

A true Alberta artist, Dolly was born in the small town of Spirit River, Alberta and has lived the majority of her life in Alberta.  Creating meaningful art relating to life experiences is a passion for Dolly.  Working for over 17 years as a graphic and visual artist for the Canadian Military at various Canadian Forces Bases across Canada, Dolly left her artistic mark by enhancing the esprit de corps of units she worked for.

Dolly has instructed art to all ages, from children as young as one to seniors up to 96 years of age.  Helping others discover the artist within them is a vital aspect of being an artist to Dolly.  Sharing her love for creating all types of art is essential for Dolly to grow as an artist.

Dolly has been a member of Visual Arts Studio Association of St. Albert (VASA) since 2012.  Dolly was the President of the Morinville Art Club 2014 - 2015 and has been a member since 2011, and is an Instructor at the Morinville Youth Art Club.  Dolly is the Event Chairperson for “Paint the Town Red” Celebrating Life and Culture Gala, a fundraiser for the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation kicking off Alberta Culture Days in Morinville.

Since 2002 Dolly has been a Regional Coordinator in Canada for the Global Art Project for Peace from Tucson, Arizona to create a culture of peace through art.  Most recently Dolly enthusiastically participated in the Alberta Flood Rose Project by creating an original Alberta Wild Rose acrylic painting along with over 450 Alberta artists to help raise money for The Canadian Red Cross to assist flood victims in Southern Alberta.

Dolly is a Certified z e n t a n g l e ® Teacher (CZT), she attended the 15th CZT Seminar in Providence, Rhode Island June 22 to 25, 2014.  Dolly is able to tailor Zentangle classes to suit your group or organization.

Artist Statement

My art is filled with an explosion of riotous colours, taking inspiration from culture, history, and nature.  As an artist, I do not rush my artwork but I savor it, delighting in the time to immerse myself in the journey to create.  At the heart of my artistic practice is detail, to every carefully drawn line, colour infused brushstroke, balancing what I see with my imagination.  I dabble in photography discovering new possibilities under the guidance of Mother Nature.

I try to convey a blend of natural beauty with contemporary images to inspire new thoughts and feelings.  My artwork continues to grow out of love for the artistic process I travel through to get to my unexpected destination.
